Saskatoons are the classic flavour of the prairie provinces and this spread captures it all - the wonderful colour, the sweet and tangy flavour and the hint of nuttiness are here to be savoured. It takes nearly one quarter pound of berries to make a jar. No wonder this is our best selling spread.

What a pair! Ripe and tasty saskatoons, the favourite berry of the prairies, blended with rhubarb from our own garden. These two flavours go together like peaches and cream.

Preparing this recipe reminds us of grandma's kitchen where the fragrance of wild fruit preserves filled the late-summer air. To keep the tradition alive we picked the fruit for this jelly by hand, the old fashioned way, from wild chokecherry bushes growing along the banks of the South Saskatchewan River. The resulting jelly has a dark red hue and intense wild cherry flavour. A delightful treat on toast, bagels or even waffles. Also lovely in tapioca, yogurt or trifle.
